Denver & Rocky Mtn. National Park with Theresa and Erik

Timing is everything!  Theresa (Daughter-in-law and Canadian citizen) passed the US Citizenship requirements in February and was notified that her naturalization ceremony would take place on May 25, 2017.  We just happened to be traveling between Moab, UT and Estes Park, CO on that day so we took time to attend the ceremony.  It was great!

The room was full of future citizens along with families and friends.
Now she has the "Paper"

Theresa and Gus celebrating at home. Some of the neighbors wondered why they were flying the flag on this day, they soon saw the Facebook postings!
Theresa, Erik and Gus joined us in Estes Park for lunch and a hike.  Since dogs aren't allowed on the trails in the National Park, we chose a county park "Hermit Park Open Space" just south of Estes Park.  This land was once owned by Hewlett Packard and used as a private retreat for employees until 2007.

Kruger Rock Trail takes you to the top of the ridge at 9,250 ft elevation.

"Kids" always have to climb rocks!  Of course wherever Erik climbed, Gus wanted to be by his side.

The clouds came in and prevented any spectacular mountain views.  Looking west into Rocky Mtn. NP with the snow coverage.  Peaks are at 14,000 ft.  The week before we arrived the area received over 3 ft. of snow.

Unfortunately Theresa & Erik had time restrictions and had to head back to Denver before reaching the summit.  Cheryl also decided to return to the car, but the old man continued to the summit trying to beat the rain!

The peak consisted of a rock formation to scale, view from very top.

Looking west from the top, clouds are moving in!!!

Erik joined us another day to do some hikes in the National Park.  Hiking to Dream Lake with snow on the ground!

Spectacular mountain cliff views on the hike.
